That's exactly why they need to go back to a 6 period day and treat high school like high school instead of treating it like it's college or something. The flow of the day was so much better and kids were just given more of an opportunity to succeed...because you didn't have to attempt to "master" anything in 4 1/2 months...you had 9 1/2 to get it straight. Plus, study halls were the norm back then. It was just an altogether better set up. Block scheduling is too much like college scheduling...and if society feels a 14 year old is mature enough to manage a college type schedule, why not do away with HS all together and just start em in college ?...because to me that is as asinine as expecting a kid to master a whole branch of Math in 4 1/2 months. And BTW, we had research methods in English class...and even in middle school we had to learn to find materials for research through the periodic guides and understanding the card catalogue and dewey decimal system....believe it or not, research wasn't always as easy as it is today. Even when I was in college a little over a decade ago, I spent alot of time sittin on a stack of books in the lower level of CVC's library looking for things I could use in papers.
Everyone here knows that the CMD is a better athletic district than the LPD. I wouldn't say that the Cumberland is really catching up with us that quick. Not even close.Quote:

Geez, I thought I had it easy at RC taking advanced classes, but we still had to go research for our papers and etc. The library wasn't a foreign thing to me just 11 years ago.

Things could be better, but its a lot better than it used to be, education is definitely better and definitely better for college - which a college degree of some sort is required now and that's only going to become more true.
Honestly after hearing more about this plan, I like it, it makes sense and saves a lot of money. If it makes the rest of the country laugh at us, I'd be floored lmao. No one knows about us and won't know then, we didn't invent this idea, we're *****ing about 6 schools when they shut down 40 at a time in other places. We complain way to much about little things, we're going to get 3 brand new schools, thank our lucky stars instead of complaining about a location and all that nonsense...I wouldn't care if they're right on top of another, who cares. Sports shouldn't be mentioned anytime soon, nothing outside of education should, yet the ones from the schools that suck **** in sports cling to it. Sports is big around here of course, but its purely entertainment unlike actual places that DO have it rough and it serves a higher purpose. This stuff is so frustrating it kills me, I just want slap some people from these towns(we know which).
If you had a better concept of what it is like or had ever experienced it, you'd know why it worked better. Think of it like this...In each class you LEARN one concept per day, and then they give you homework to drill that one concept. The next day you learn another one and drill it with homework. After you do that for 4-5 days, you have a test that ensures you have learned the concept and then the next week you build off of that. Block scheduling is more like you have to pile on info because you have a semester to get through the course...and kids don't learn as well when they are just deluged with info for an hour and a half per day. And many don't understand they "why" of what they are trying grasp when they are hit with multiple ideas at one time. The whole argument goes back to the way we learn. If we are learning everyday tasks (like when we are learning to walk, talk, eat on out own, take a bath, etc) being bombarded with info and ideas is ok because the level you really have to think to do those tasks is low because for the most part, they are a natural part of life. Teaching thinking skills or analytical thinking doesn't work that way. In order to analyze, you first have to understand...and without understanding you can't fully analyze anything...Bloom's Taxonimy...do they even teach that anymore or is MEMORIZING the state insect of Virginia still deemed more important?Quote:
